The Beautiful Bond of Babywearing

I started babywearing in 2013, my very first carrier was a SAYA.  I can still picture me and my husband watching the tutorial video over and over, maybe 10 to 20 times! We’d laugh, pause, and rewind as we tried to figure out the right way to wear it. Those moments were filled with the excitement of parenthood and the beautiful chaos of learning something new together.

Through the years, I’ve tried different brands and styles of baby carriers, each one carrying its own story. Every snug wrap, every soft buckle, and every sleepy snuggle reminded me how quickly time passes and how my babies have truly grown right in my care.

So, is babywearing really beneficial?
Absolutely. Beyond being convenient, it’s a practice filled with connection and love, one that nurtures both mother and child.

Here are some of the beautiful benefits I’ve experienced:

✅ Bonding and Emotional Connection – Babywearing allows your baby to feel your heartbeat, warmth, and movement; Offering comfort and security that strengthens your emotional bond.

✅ Hands-Free Mobility – It gives moms the freedom to move, work, or care for older kids while keeping baby close and content.

✅ Less Crying, More Calm – Studies show that babies who are worn tend to cry less and sleep better because they feel safe and comforted in their mother’s arms.

✅ Supports Breastfeeding and Responsiveness – Babywearing and breastfeeding beautifully complement each other. The closeness helps moms recognize her baby’s cues faster, respond calmly, and nurse more comfortably, even on the go. It also builds confidence to feed discreetly, especially during travels or growth spurts. Together, they create a natural rhythm of nurturing.

But through experience, I’ve also learned that not all baby carriers are safe. Always make sure your carrier is ergonomic and supports both your baby’s hips and your back. Remembering the T.I.C.K.S. Rule can help you out.

Babywearing Ticks

Last October 25, we joined the Babywearing Filipinas event at SM East Ortigas, organized by Shadrach Co., a local baby carrier brand with heart and purpose led by Mommy Jennelyn Alegarbez, a certified babywearing consultant. It was heartwarming to see moms eagerly learning and perfecting their babywearing techniques, and even more inspiring to witness dads confidently carrying their little ones! Mamas also lit up the stage, dancing and  strutting down the runway with their Shadrach carriers, showing that babywearing can be both practical and stylish.

The event was filled with meaningful conversations — from motherhood and breastfeeding to entrepreneurship — reminding me that motherhood is not just about doing things right, but about growing, learning, and supporting one another along the way. 🌸
